At Bayhealth you will have an abundance of opportunities to learn general GI skills and get exposure to many unusual and unique cases. We are confident that with this variety of exposure GI fellows upon graduating will be comfortable handling all kinds of general GI cases. Although this is a community hospital, our advanced endoscopists provide care for complex cases that are usually referred to university hospitals. This care is provided at a state of the art endoscopy unit. Between both campuses almost 9000 procedures were completed in 2023 and we continue to grow. This will give the fellows plenty of opportunity to master endoscopy skills.
We are proud to say that we have an affiliation with Einstein Hospital in Philadelphia. This affiliation gives the fellows an opportunity to learn more about liver transplant and approaches to complex liver cases.
Besides clinical exposure, our aim is to integrate clinical practice with high level academic and intellectual discussions. We will have interdisciplinary meetings with general surgery, radiology, pathology, hematology, and oncology. Fellows are encouraged to engage in innovative thinking and research projects. Our hospital has its own IRB and Medical Research Library. Our EMR is EPIC; besides ease of use, it allows highly detailed retrieval of data for research.
Bayhealth Medical Center’s Kent Campus is in Dover, the capital of Delaware. It is about 45 minutes away from the state’s very popular beaches. It is about an hour and a half from Philadelphia and Baltimore and two hours from Washington D.C.

Last, some fun trivia about Delaware: there are only four states in the U.S.A. in which the first letter of the state and the first letter of the capital are the same. Do you know the other three?
