You will learn to lead your team, provide exceptional critical care, and grow professionally and personally during your residency. By the time you complete your residency, you will be confident in your ability to provide safe, quality care. And you will be well poised for career growth and an exciting career.
The COVID pandemic has proven again that emergency medicine is a safety net for communities. We provide trauma care, pediatric care, critical care, and treatment for illnesses 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
When you train here, you will learn to think on your feet, open your mind and apply your intellect. Your patients will appreciate your skills and dedication, and you will appreciate the environment of support and education.
As a community hospital system, we are invested in the community where we work and live. We strive to provide exceptional care with a personal touch. As a resident in a community emergency department, you will benefit from the associations that you build in a smaller academic environment and the close relationships that you will have with your teaching faculty.
Despite our small community, you can feel confident in the capabilities of our residency program. Our residency consists of a team of talented, well-trained physicians with years of knowledge and practice. In addition to being a physician, I have been teaching emergency medicine for more than 25 years. Teaching is my true passion, and I look forward to continuing with the Emergency Medicine Residency.
Working primarily in two facilities, one urban and one rural, you will learn to care for the sickest patients with skilled faculty to guide you. You will develop excellent procedural skills though our state-of-the-art Simulation Center. As a resident in a Level III trauma center, you will be intimately involved in trauma care—from resuscitation to discharge.
To further develop your pediatric skills, you will rotate through the Pediatric Emergency Department and Pediatric ICU at Nemours Children’s Hospital in Wilmington, Delaware – about 30 miles north of our Dover site.
As you explore our website, learn more about the excellent education and opportunities that we offer. We are proud to offer a humane, forward-looking and innovative residency program.
We look forward to meeting you!
